Job Title: Senior Technician – Optics

Location: Sullivan Park (100% Onsite)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Job Summary

The Senior Technician – Optics will support the design, development, and continuous improvement of laser-based processes and systems in a laboratory environment. This role requires a highly hands-on technician with strong experience executing experiments, applying the scientific method, and troubleshooting laser and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate is self-directed, safety-focused, and capable of collaborating effectively with cross-functional technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the design, development, and optimization of laser-based processes and systems.
• Execute experimental plans by setting up experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and accurately documenting experimental parameters and results.
• Interface with internal customers to understand laser processing requests and ensure timely and high-quality delivery of sample parts.
• Support laser system maintenance activities, including assembly, installation, debugging, troubleshooting, and start-up of new laser setups.
• Perform hands-on mechanical troubleshooting and apply sound engineering principles to resolve system and process issues.
• Maintain accurate, detailed process documentation and safety records.
• Ensure laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety standards.
• Manage inventory levels and coordinate ordering of supplies and consumables as needed.
• Contribute to safety initiatives, including risk assessments and implementation of safety upgrades.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support laboratory and project needs.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a laboratory environment executing experiments.
• Clear and practical understanding of the scientific method and experimental execution.
• Hands-on experience with laser systems , including setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with a solid understanding of engineering principles.
• Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Proven ability to meet project deadlines and deliver effective technical solutions.
• Strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to ask questions, make recommendations, and raise concerns when appropriate.
• Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, fostering a positive, team-oriented work environment.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and perform a variety of tasks as needed.
• Professional communication skills for interaction with technicians, scientists, internal customers, management, and suppliers.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, including experience with lab safety practices, risk assessments, and safety improvements.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in documentation and data recording.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Teams .

Education

• Associate’s degree preferred , but not required. Relevant experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
